Gaston Rebry
Wevelgem, Belgium 1933-2007 Shawinigan Born on October 30th, 1933 in Wevelgem, Belgium, disapeared on January 5th, 2007, in Shawinigan, he was the son of the Belgian cyclist Gaston Rebry (1909-1953). Like his father, he has been a professional cyclist in the 50's. Trained at the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Menin, he won twice the first price. In 1954, he settles down in Quebec and goes to the École des Beaux-Arts de Montréal. He quickly becomes a professional artist. Very inspired by nature, he often represented the Mauricie, even though he also painted characters and still life. Late canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien offered many of his paintings to foreign dingnitaries. |
