FR: Très jeune, Johanne Thomassin puise son inspiration dans la nature qui l’entoure. Les champs et les vastes étendues la fascinent.
Inspirée dès son plus jeune âge par le dessin, elle met les pieds dans le monde des arts visuels vers la fin des années 90 comme assistante du maître-graveur Pierre-Maurice Jobin, puis au début des années 2000 en tant que conseillère en art auprès de maisons de renom. En 2014, Johanne Thomassin fonde sa propre galerie d’art au cœur de Place Royale dans le Vieux Port de Québec. Elle y représentait 27 peintres québécois reconnus.
Depuis 2016, elle est propriétaire de la célèbre Galerie Le Chien D’or, dont la légende fait partie du patrimoine culturel québécois. Le lieu lui sert d'atelier de création et salle d’exposition. Dans un univers lumineux et harmonieux, la Galerie Le Chien D’or offre aussi une magnifique sélection d’œuvres d’art d'artistes québécois.
L’univers de l’artiste couvre très large. Aucune limite ni contrainte, autant dans le choix des sujets que dans la manière : fleurs, animaux, paysages marins, etc. Elle utilise l’acrylique et différents médiums en technique mixte. Sa touche personnelle est l’application partielle de résine sur ses toiles afin de créer un effet d’eau ou de verre.
Cette créatrice en constante recherche est l’expression même du nom conformisme qui procure à terme des œuvres d’exception. La suivre dans sa démarche procure déjà en soi un réel plaisir à l’âme.

EN: From an early age, she was inspired by her natural surroundings, the fields and wide-open spaces. She would keep herself entertained by observing and drawing the cattle, horses, and migrating snow geese she found there.
Building on her childhood love of drawing, she pursued her journey in the world of visual arts as assistant to master engraver Pierre-Maurice Jobin in the late 90s and as an art advisor to celebrated houses in the early 2000s. In 2014, she founded her own gallery in Place Royale in the heart of Quebec City’s Old Port, where she represented 27 high-profile Quebec artists.
Since 2016, her renowned Galerie Le Chien D’or – named after a Quebec legend – has two addresses, one practically in the shadow of the Château Frontenac and the other in the Old Port. The galleries serve both as her studio and exhibition spaces. You can now also find artwork from other local artists.
Her artistic range is expansive, with no limits or constraints, whether in her selection of subjects or her approach. She uses acrylic and mixed media. Her personal touch is the partial use of resin to give a water or glass effect.
Such tireless creative searching is the quintessence of nonconformity and the source of outstanding works. Tracking her artistic process is a joyful experience that delights the soul.
